"We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give." -Winston Churchill
Welcome!
My name is Jessica Martin and I am doctoral candidate in the Counselor Education program at University of Central Florida. My current research interests include: Increasing mental health
services utilization among under-served and minority population, evidence based practice in
rehabilitation and disability counseling, and counselor identity
development, preparation and training
. I received my masters degree from Winston-Salem State University in Rehabilitation Counseling and my bachelors degree from East Carolina University in Applied Sociology.
Prior to starting my PhD, I worked for Cigna Disability Insurance in Glendale, CA for 4 years as a Rehabilitation Counselor. There, I worked with a team of doctors, nurses and claims managers to identify and work with claimants who could benefit from rehabilitation counseling to assist them with returning to work, school or other activities to assist them with leading productive and independent lives. During my time with Cigna, I was also an active volunteer for March of Dimes and Ronald McDonald House. I also have experience working with state vocational rehabilitation agencies in North Carolina and California. I am currently working as the Clinical Supervisor at the Community Counseling and Research Center at the University of Central Florida.
I believe that counseling is a calling and a gift to be shared with others. Thank you for allowing me to share this piece of my life with you!
